The Allentown Art Museum appears small from the outside but inside there are three floors and an impressive amount of art – the museum's collection includes almost 12000 works according to its Web site.
Admission is $12 for adults $10 for senior citizens students and children ages 6 and over and free to members military and children ages 5 and under. Sunday general admission is free.
It's standard museum stuff really… very quiet with lots of twists and turns to view specially lit displays of paintings sculpture and artifacts. The few security guards are scattered throughout usually offer a friendly smile instead of stark intimidation as with some museums. And the staff welcomes questions and suggestions with open minds big smiles and lots of pamphlets – bring a bag or something to carry out all the information you are going to get.
The museum shop has the usual array of magnets postcards shirts bags and other trinkets. Visitors can peruse the shop without admission to the museum but most visitors hit the shop on their way out.
